This Sunday, June 17th, give your father his card, finish your Father’s Day bike ride, then grab a recovery drink and point your browser toward VeloNews.com at noon for live video coverage of the 2012 Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic presented by Rockstar Games.
The 39th running of Manhattan’s all-day event features a food festival, BMX shows, and even a midday bike messenger race. The day starts at 12 p.m. ET with the Harlem Cup Children’s race for juniors aged 13-17, followed by a 15-minute messenger race. The Men’s Cat. 4 field rolls out at 1 p.m. to compete for $250 in prizes, followed by the Masters racers, the Men’s Cat. 2/3 field, and the Women’s Pro/1/2/3 race.
The main event, the David Walker Memorial Pro/Cat. 1 race, goes off at 4 p.m. for 50 miles in Marcus Garvey Park. Australian Hilton Clarke (UnitedHealthcare) currently leads the National Criterium Calendar and will hope to extend his lead on Father’s Day. Clarke will be supported by his team’s dominant sprint train, which also holds second in the NCC standings thanks to Jake Keough. Clarke said about this weekend’s race, “I am very excited to race the Skyscraper this year. Defending my NCC lead against some pretty great competition in the media capital of the world is an opportunity I’m looking forward to, especially in Harlem and on Father’s Day.”
For those not watching Clarke’s locally-televised defense of his NCC lead, VeloNews.com is your source for online live video coverage of the day’s racing.
