Jean-Christophe Peraud's Kuota KOM Evo
David Millar edged Jean-Christophe Peraud in the stage-12 sprint, but the Frenchman will have another shot at glory next month: The 2008 Olympic silver medalist in cross country has made the French Olympic squad, and will contest the XC race on August 12. Like the rest of his squad, Peraud rides Kuota's light KOM Evo frame with SRAM components and a Selle San Marco saddle. He uses Reynolds RZR wheels most days. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com

Peraud caught the eye of pro road squads after he won the French national time trial title in 2009, a year after his Olympic silver. He still splits his time between disciplines, placing seventh at the pre-Tour round of the XC World Cup. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com

A Selle San Marco Aspide saddle. The small, zippered box zip-tied underneath holds Peraud's SRM head unit. Team sponsor Sigma provides him with a cycling computer, but it is not compatible with the SRM. So he gets time, distance, speed and all the rest from the Sigma, and downloads his power data in the evenings from the under-seat SRM head unit. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com

Peraud rode to an impressive ninth in the 2011 Tour, but lost time in crashes in the first week this year. His attempt at redemption in Friday's stage came just a few meters short. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com
