Todd Wells opted to stay in the U.S. leading up to the Olympics this year, but his new Olympic bike was on scene at the final World Cup of the season in Val d'Isere, France. Like all Specialized-sponsored Olympic athletes, Wells will ride a bright orange/red frame during the Games. Photo: Caley Fretz | Singletrack.com

Mechanics had just finished unboxing and building Wells' machine when we swung by. It was set up with 39/26 double front and Specialized FACT carbon cranks. Photo: Caley Fretz | Singletrack.com

Wells uses an XO rear derailleur, rather than an XX, because XO has Sram's new roller clutch mechanism. The small addition in weight is worth better chain retention. Photo: Caley Fretz | Singletrack.com

The Specialized bikes are certainly easy to spot. Given the Olympic restrictions on branding, the use of a single color across every cycling discipline is a brilliant marketing move. Photo: Caley Fretz | Singletrack.com
