GAVERE, Belgium (VN) — Nikki Harris (Telenet-Fidea) rode what may have been the best race of her career to take victory on Sunday in the muddy Superprestige round at Gavere.
Already a tough, technical course, the circuit at Gavere was rendered even more difficult by the morning’s rain, which continued through most of the women’s race.
Despite the horrific conditions — or perhaps because of them — Harris rode to a strong solo win ahead of Sanne Van Paassen (Rabobank) and Sanne Cant (BKCP-Enertherm).
“It was really heavy,” a muck-encrusted Harris said afterward. “I love the mud for some reason. It’s my friend.”
Editor’s note: Stay tuned for an expanded women’s report from Gavere.
