Luke Davison (South Australian Institute of Sport) won stage 2 at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour Saturday. Overnight leader Aaron Donnelly (Huon Salmon-Genesys Wealth Advisers) held onto a narrow 14-second lead with one day of racing remaining.
Davison outsprinted Will Walker (Drapac Cycling) from the day’s long breakaway after the pair established a maximum advantage of more than two minutes on the 146km run from Mitchelton Winery outside Nagambie to Healesville.
“To be honest I thought there was another lap to go,” said Davison. “I knew the peloton were breathing down our neck and to be honest, GC was on my mind.”
