Russian RusVelo team granted Pro Continental license

Russian team RusVelo, denied its license by the UCI in December, received a Pro Continental license on Wednesday.

The team, which acts as a bridge between the Russian federation’s track program, the Continental ITERA-Katusha team, and the embattled former ProTeam Katusha, met UCI requirements for a second division license, the governing body announced.

Katusha is challenging the UCI’s decision to not renew its ProTeam license for 2013 to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. It is unclear at this time how RusVelo’s second division status will impact Katusha’s ability to obtain a Pro Continental license, should it not be granted a ProTeam license on review.
