DRAGUIGNAN, France (VN) — Arthur Vichot (FDJ) won the 45th Tour du Haut Var-Matin on Sunday.

Lars Boom (Blanco Pro Cycling) took the second and final stage, a 207km leg around Draguignan, ahead of Vichot and Daniel Oss (BMC Racing).

Vichot joined the survivors of a daylong break — his teammate Pierrick Fedrigo, Blanco mates Boom and Laurens Ten Dam, and Oss — with 13km remaining in the stage.

Fedrigo worked for his teammate and it paid off in the end. When the overall was tallied, Vichot was tied on time with Boom and Ten Dam, but prevailed based on placings, having finished third on Saturday and second on Sunday. Boom and Ten Dam wound up second and third overall, respectively.

“This is a race that I had in mind since the beginning of the season, with a course that suits me perfectly,” said the 24-year-old Vichot.

“I had good legs since the beginning of the year. My team was at my service and I am proud to have met their expectations.”

Thor Hushovd (BMC ), who led the race after winning stage 1, finished 14 seconds back on Sunday, winning the bunch sprint for sixth, but slipping to fifth overall.

“Of course I’m disappointed not to win the race overall, but my stage win Saturday and how I felt today is a big boost to my confidence,” Hushovd said.
