Worlds course remains above the waterline as junior men prepare for championship

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (VN) — The bad news? As the Ohio River and Beargrass Creek rise, water has infiltrated the venue for the UCI Elite Cyclocross World Championships at Eva Bandman Park.

The good news? Workers have been pumping it back out, and the course remained above the waterline with no rerouting anticipated as the junior men prepared to start their championship race at 9:45 a.m. Eastern time.

Temperatures are just below freezing, perhaps 30 degrees, and the snow stopped falling at 8 a.m. local time, leaving perhaps 2cm of fresh powder on the deck. The course appeared frozen an hour later, but as the temps rise the circuit will soften, and the elite women and men should expect muddy conditions.

They should also expect crowds. The spectators started pouring in early, from Americans wearing gorilla costumes to the Sven Nys supporters club in official fanboy kit.
