Mark Renshaw (Blanco) suffered a concussion and fractured collarbone in a crash at the Presidential Tour of Turkey on Monday.
The Aussie sprinter crashed heavily in a large pile-up late in the second stage, which finished in Antalya.
Cyclingonline.nl reported Monday that Renshaw had suffered the collarbone injury and “lost a few teeth” in the crash. His teammate, Theo Bos, was also involved in the crash and suffered a leg injury. Both riders were undergoing evaluation in area hospitals on Monday afternoon.
The Blanco team announced on Twitter later Monday that Renshaw had suffered a concussion and lost a tooth, but further evaluation of his collarbone was required: “Lastest [sic] news from Turkey: Renshaw has a concussion and lost a tooth. He also complains of pain in his neck. Collarbone needs further examinations of the medical team. It is still unclear if the collarbone is fractured. Theo Bos also in hospital with upper leg injury. Earlier media reports about fractured collarbone of Renshaw are premature. Stay tuned. More info to come on Renshaw and Bos.”
The team confirmed later Monday that Renshaw had suffered a collarbone fracture and would undergo surgery in The Netherlands, but remained hospitalized in Turkey for observation.
“Renshaw lost also one tooth and hurt his muscles in his neck. He needs surgery for his collarbone which will be done in Amersfoort asap,” the team wrote on Twitter. “Theo Bos has no fractures in his upper leg. He has a ‘only’ a big hemorrage. Theo is on his way to the hotel.”
