Serghei Tvetcov went on the attack at the Cascade Classic on Friday and his aggression paid with his second consecutive stage win and the overall lead in the six-day National Racing Calendar event. Tvetcov (Jelly Belly-Kenda) won the stage 3 Cascade Lakes Road Race, besting Travis McCabe (Elbowz-Boneshaker) and Chad Haga (Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies) in an eight-man sprint at Mount Bachelor Ski Area in central Oregon.

Overnight leader Jakub Novak (BMC Development) finished in a group 17 seconds back, and ceded the leader’s jersey to Tvetcov.

In the women’s race, Lauren Stephens (Tibco-To the Top) won solo on the uphill finish, beating Kathryn Donovan (NOW-Novartis for MS) by 12 seconds. Donovan’s teammate, Alison Powers, was third, winning a small group sprint 43 seconds later.

Kristin McGrath (Exergy Twenty16) finished in the Powers group to defend her overall lead with two days of racing remaining. Second overall Claudia Haüsler (Tibco) finish with McGrath to keep her gap at 2:20.

The Cascade Classic continues with the stage 4 Desert Orthopedics and Rebound Physical Therapy Downtown Twilight Criterium in Bend, Oregon, on Saturday night. Women will race for one hour and men will race for 75 minutes.
