Hall wins Fort Follies Grand Prix in Colorado

Lauren Hall won the Fort Follies Grand Prix in Fort Collins, Colorado, on Saturday. Hall launched from an Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies leadout in the final lap of the 50-minute criterium to take victory.

Optum’s Leah Kirchman was second.

Hall’s victory came tat the expense of a field that boasted U.S. criterium champion Alison Powers (NOW-Novartis for MS), former national champion Theresa Cliff-Ryan, and cyclocross professional Amy Dombroski (Telenet-Fidea).

The 24-lap event was contentious from the start, with ever-other-lap primes drawing out near non-stop attacks in the downtown streets of the northern Colorado burg. The race preceded the arrival of the sixth stage of the USA Pro Challenge, as well as the Saturday night launch of the Women’s Cycling Association.

The WCA, headed by a core of women’s professionals including Robin Farina (NOW), was borne out of a meeting at the Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic in June and will pursue wider attention for women’s racing.
