Chris Horner won stage 10 of the Vuelta a España on Monday in Güéjar Sierra, Spain. Horner (RadioShack-Leopard) attacked high up on the 15.8-kilometer hors categorie Alto Hazallanas climb to ride to solo victory.

Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) was second, at 48 seconds, in the 186km leg from Torredelcampo. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) was third, at 1:02.

Overnight leader Daniel Moreno (Katusha) lost more than two minutes and ceded the red leader’s jersey. With his time gain, Horner took the overall lead ahead of the Vuelta’s first rest day.

Nibali now sits second, at 43 seconds, with Nicolas Roche (Saxo-Tinkoff) third, at 53 seconds.

The 68th Vuelta a España continues Wednesday with the 38km 11th stage, an individual time trial in Tarazona.
