LONDON (AFP) — Simon Yates won stage 6 of the Tour of Britain on Friday in Dartmoor, England. Riding for Great Britain, Yates’ victory came on the tour’s most difficult mountain stage.

Yates attacked on the Haytor climb, late in the 137-kilometer sixth leg, to beat David Lopez (Sky), with Martin Elmiger (IAM Cycling) finishing third.

“To win a stage of your national tour, you can’t get much better,” said Yates.

Race leader Bradley Wiggins (Sky), the 2012 Olympic and Tour de France champion, was just seven seconds behind Yates to maintain his place atop the overall standings.
