Mike Garrigan (Van Dessel Factory Team) and Laura Van Gilder (Van Dessel-Mellow Mushroom) won the elite races at Kutztown Cross in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Val Gilder and three other riders — Arley Kemmerer (C3-Twenty 20 Cycling), Nikki Thiemann (Team CF), and Stacey Barbossa (NJ/NY Colavita Women’s Team) — were in the lead group during the entire women’s race. Theimann eventually dropped back because of a flat and troubles at two barriers, but she raced back to the group in the final section of the course and finished third, not far behind runner-up Kemmerer.

In the men’s race, the field was strung out almost immediately. Garrigan, however, was able to hold off Cameron Dodge (Scott Racing) and Edwin Bull (Van Dessel Factory Team) at the finish.

Kutztown Cross was the eighth event in the 2013 Fuji Bikes MAC Series Presented by SRAM. The ninth and final stop is Limestone Cross at the Kiln in Emmaus, Pennsylvania on December 15.
