The Australian Orica-GreenEdge team has announced contract extensions for three of its riders, including Tour de France yellow jersey Daryl Impey.
Young riders Mitch Docker and Leigh Howard signed two-year deals with the UCI ProTeam, Orica announced on Thursday. Impey, a South African, this year became the first African to wear the Tour’s maillot jaune. A key setup man in the team’s sprint train, Impey has locked in with Orica through 2016.
“Everything about these past two years has been incredible,” Impey said in a press release. “The riders, the staff, and the management are all so supportive. The way we lift each other up to lift the whole level of the team has made this team what it is today. We started from scratch with the attitude that this team isn’t just about one or two individuals. One rider is just as important as the next. We’ve stayed true to that idea, and look at what we’ve accomplished.”
In Docker and Howard, Orica locked up two key leadout men for sprinters Matthew Goss and Michael Matthews.
