Tim Johnson (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) won a frigid round one of the Deschutes Brewery Cup on Saturday in Bend, Oregon.

Johnson soloed to the victory by 40 seconds over Geoff Kabush (Scott-3Rox Racing). Jamey Driscoll (Raleigh-Clement) followed 11 seconds later for third.

“So fun to race when you’re already numb — crashing doesn’t hurt,” tweeted Johnson. “I wore gloves today. That was definitely a good move.”

Added Kabush: “Kitted up on my way to race today I was asked how the snowmobiling was.”

In women’s racing, Katerina Nash (Luna) likewise won in convincing fashion, hitting the line 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Crystal Anthony (Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies). Elle Anderson (California Giant-Specialized) finished third.

Racing continues Sunday in Bend.
