Kirsten Wild returned to the top of the Ladies Tour of Qatar podium Tuesday with an opening stage win in Mesaieed. Wild (Giant-Shimano) was fastest in a bunch sprint to close the 97-kilometer circuit from the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.
American Shelley Olds (Ale Cipollini) was second to Wild, a three-time overall winner. Chloe Hosking (Hitec Products) was third in the group of roughly 20 riders to contest the finish.
With the win and time bonus, Wild leads Olds in the GC by eight seconds. Hosking is third overall, at 11 seconds.
Wild won the Ladies Tour of Qatar in 2009, 2010, and 2013 — three of the five times the race has been contested.
The Ladies Tour of Qatar continues Wednesday with the 112km second stage, from Al Zubara to Madinat Al Shamal.
