Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) claimed victory in the 94th Volta a Catalunya on Sunday as Lieuwe Westra (Astana) won the seventh and final stage.

Rodriguez held off a late push by Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) to finish four seconds ahead of his compatriot in the general classification with American Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing) third at seven seconds.

Westra (Astana) won the 120.7km stage around Barcelona ahead of Marcus Burghardt (BMC) and Thomas Voeckler (Europcar).

The race favorites arrived at the finish line together as van Garderen and Rodriguez prevented Contador from making a decisive break towards the line.

Tour de France champion Chris Froome (Sky) finished sixth overall behind Romain Bardet (Ag2r La Mondiale) and Nairo Quintana (Movistar).
