Bradley Wiggins wins British national time trial championship

Olympic time trial champion Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) added a third national time trial championship title to his lengthy and diverse palmares on Thursday.

The 2012 Tour de France champion proved to be in top form, besting his fellow Sky teammate, Geraint Thomas, by more than a minute on a cloudy day in Monmouthshire, Wales. Wiggins completed the 26-mile race in 53:56.

“This is probably my last British TT champs so to win it and perhaps never come back again is a nice way to end it,” Wiggins told British Cycling.

Though he was left off of Sky’s Tour de France roster this year, Wiggins’ 2014 season has been successful — he sprinted to ninth at Paris-Roubaix and recently won the Amgen Tour of California.

According to a series of post-race tweets by Cycling Weekly, Wiggins spoke about his being left home this July, saying, “They’re sending is an incredible team. They’ve got the defending champion who has got to be the favorite … I think the team that’s going, you couldn’t fault it. With my crash in Switzerland, I was probably lacking preparation.”
