Dubai Tour announces details of stages 1 and 2

Dubai Tour organizers revealed more details on Wednesday about the first and second stages of the race, which is set to kick off February 3. As anticipated, stages 1 and 2 of the four-day race will favor sprinters, who will hope to build enough of an advantage early in the race to win the overall, like Mark Cavendish did last year.

Stage 1: Dubai Silicon Oasis stage (179km)

The first day will mark the first time the race rides the entire stretch of desert between Dubai and Fujairah, crossing four different Emirates: Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al-Khaimah, and Fujairah. It’s a flat route through the dunes with a short and mild group of hills in the Al Hajar Mountains, the highest mountain range in the eastern Arabian peninsula. The stage concludes in the Fujairah City, a place that has been inhabited for 4,000 years.

Stage 2: Nakheel stage (188km)

Stage 2 is divided in two distinct parts: The first is just outside the metropolis, partially in the desert, the second part is within the Dubai Marina, finishing in Palm Jumeirah. The race passes several notable landmarks, like the Al Marmoum camel racetrack, the 150-kilometer Al Qudra bike path, the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex pool, Dubailand, the Dubai Miracle Garden, and Dubai Sports City. It then enters a city circuit, passes through Jumeirah Islands and finishes on the Palm, an artificial island reached through an underwater tunnel.
